Derse is officially ruled by the Black King and Queen. Their decisional power is limitless and humans, carapaces and trolls have to obey them.

In theory, the Archagent is the third highest Dersite rank, behind the Queen and King.
Nobility, as it’s the case on Prospit, is solely composed of humans. They live on Derse’s moon with the King and the Queen, in the palace. Among them, there is another hierarchy based on birth.

A few select families from Derse’s aristocracy are considered as royalty. They are less powerful than the Black King and Queen but they are higher than the rest of the nobles.
Military officers are highly considered by the aristocracy.

An old tradition gives special role to a boy and a girl born from the “royal” human families. They are the Prince and the Princess and they play a role specific to Derse’s culture. The Prince and Princess are meant to marry each other once the younger of them (if there is an age gap between them) reaches the age of eighteen. There can only be one Prince and one Princess at a time. The other children born from these families will be regular nobles and carry on with their lives without any specific duties.

Princes and Princesses are part of the royal protocol. They have to be present at every ceremony but have no decisional power. They are mostly like accessories, figures created for the population. Once they get married, they retire and are expected to build a family.

The Prince and Princess are sent to live in their respective tower when they are still babies. They are taken care of by carapaces. After their wedding, they move out of the towers and move in a regular aristocratic apartment. Then, the cycle starts again.

Once they have retired, the first boy and girl to be born from ANY royal family will be the next Prince and Princess. Since this role has really high symbolic and prestige, a race to know who will give birth first begins between the families. In fact, the race often begins in the year of the current Prince and Princess’s wedding.

The current Prince and Princess, Dirk and Roxy were meant to marry each other. However, with Roxy disappearing at the age of one, things didn’t go as planned. After a few month of desperately searching Derse, her death was considered as certain. The kingdom mourned her. And then, royal families started talking about the next Princess. She never came. After years and years, no girl was ever born. It was as if fate itself made it impossible to give birth to a girl. Rumours about this mysterious phenomenon started to spread. Dersites would say that these families were put under a curse. Some would say that it meant the Prince wasn’t supposed to marry anyone but the missing Princess. They would say that she was still alive and that was why no girl was born since her mysterious disappearance. They started calling her the Rogue Princess. Some Dersites still tried to look for her. The only way they had to recognize her was her physical particularity: her pink eyes.

Royal families coped pretty badly with that failure. Pathetic stunts and deceptions were arranged by those foolish (or desperate) enough to believe they would work. For example, a woman dressed her newborn baby with girl’s clothing and pretended he was a girl. She had to spend a few weeks in the dungeons. No one ever tried that kind of tricks again.

Two years after Roxy’s disappearance, a girl was born in one of the royal families. She was a cousin of the Rogue Princess and that was a good omen. She was named Rose. Aristocracy was ecstatic: the Prince would finally have his Princess. Sadly, it dawned upon everyone that this baby girl was in fact the Seer announced more than a decade ago. The followers of the Horrorterrors claimed her with obstinacy. There was no way a gift like hers would be wasted in parades and shallow society life. The human royalty, on the other side, clung to her with despair. The quarrel was brought to the Black Queen attention. She decided in favor of her Seer fate; therefore, Rose was taken away to be educated and royalty lost their Princess once again. After that, no girl was ever born.

The army occupies a high place in Derse’s hierarchy. Young men from the nobility are sent to be trained and often become officers. It is a highly respected profession. Usually, the boys from royal families who couldn’t become the Prince were trained to become war machines. A military career is considered as the second most honorable role. Some would even say the most honorable since you actually did something concrete.

Sometimes, girls from the nobility are trained to become soldiers too. The military career is not exclusive to men; however, most noble families consider a woman’s place is not in the army. Some families are known to systematically choose the military career for their children, without gender distinction.

Due to the army’s importance in Derse’s organisation, it is composed of more humans than the Prospitian army. Carapaces still have a big role in it but humans from nobility seek to be enlisted. The higher positions are occupied by humans.

Birth has nothing to do in the ranking. The commanders are soldiers who managed great accomplishment and managed to gain respect. The higher ranked officers are assured to have their say in the Kingdom’s exterior politics.

Independent from the army, they are the forces of the law on Derse. They make sure the rules are followed by the citizens. These carapaces have to obey to higher powers like the King and the Queen.

As mentioned before, the Archagent traditionally the highest rank after the King and Queen. Jack Noir, as the Archagent, has to do a lot of paperwork and takes care of various affairs of the kingdom.
The traditional legal system is pretty simple: agents find infractions and punish them immediately.

Most agents are fateful to the Black King and Queen. However, some of the agents would, if they were asked to choose, obey without hesitation to their direct superior, Jack Noir.

This spiritual community is as old as the Cult of Life is on Prospit. The divinities they worship are the creatures of the Furthest Ring. In the past, it was considered as a religion. Dersites would communicate with the Horroterrors without fear. But as time passed, less and less people took interest in it. Where the Cult of Life took a cultural value, the Circle of the Horror became an object of suspicion. The creatures were considered as demons and many Dersites started fearing them.

Their practices are kept secrets but they are constituted of dark ceremonies, ancient chants and meditation (leading to communion with the Horrorterrors). They give masses in honor of the Horrorterrors. They also do a series of rituals, including animal sacrifices. They are known for their ability to provide charms to the ones who need them; these can give you luck, keep you healthy, give you fertility (these are very popular since the Princess is gone.. however, the members of the Circle knew they wouldn’t work), etc. The members of the Circle are also known to curse other beings but they do it only when they feel the cause is right. Their constant communication with the Horrorterrors allows them to know exactly who needs their help on Derse. They often appear in front of you when you expect them the least.

They consider the material world as trivial.

Today, few Dersites still venerate the Horrorterrors. Those who remain are part of an exclusive community. They are known to wield dark magic but mystery clouds them from the eyes of the neophytes.

When Derse’s Seer was born, they took her away and raised her in that dark ambiance, making her a part of their cult.
