This mainly is for the magic users of the site, mainly meaning those in the Temples.
I had been thinking of this for a while, and this was originally going to be in Correspondence so it could be like, passing notes or something like that but for now until we/I figure out what is happening it's probably better for it to be in the OOC section. This way non-magic users can also pitch in if they've got ideas/suggestions/critiques for magics!

So what is this and why do we need it?
This is basically a thread to keep the spells your characters commonly use in order because really, between Dersites (and Prospitans on their planet) we've all learned them from the same place didn't we?, so we should all the same spells. We may not exactly need it since everyone has a unique way of doing things and if you have some magical tricks your character learned on their own from practice after leaving the temples then you don't have to put those up, or you could say that it's a private use spell but want to discuss it anyway.
Also with magic there is a tendency, at least on my part, to forget to write limitations on spells until later and have that contradict earlier things I've posted.

It is also to discuss whether certain spells are OP, make limitations and think up ideas for new spells or potions! I mention potions in this also because I figure potions would be more powerful than spells because they have to be prepared and taken in advance and need more exactness. Opinions on this?

For example, a spell that I use a lot is a spell for a floating light.

This light ball can be conjured at any time without any previous prep, though obviously it can be seen easier in the dark than in a lit room. It's about the size of a fist. Cannot be blown out since after all, it is magic.
The light doesn't really have a dimmer, it's just a ball of light about as bright as a 30 watt bulb. It follows the spell caster or can be directed to stay behind or in front or to the side of them in order to hide the light a little it can be shielded by hands or cloth or something.
Created and dismissed by verbal incantation, or can be erased silently by closing one's hand around the ball. While the ball isn't enough to set something on fire it will sting the hand if touched, just like touching an actual lightbulb that's been on for a while will. So turning it off without making noise (technically the wrong way to remove it) has that momentary downside.

Potions should probably only be made by someone with an alchemy licence, maybe? Since the equipment is pretty hard to obtain (and some of the ingredients,) maybe there should be a sort of class most potion-makers have to attend in order to get their licence (and get their hands on the equipment/rare ingredients as well.) I can think of a scenario where people used to make potions recklessly or really sloppily and market them, resulting in the hospitalization/deaths of their buyers/consumers.

idk, just an idea!

If I remember right in the passage about Derse and the Circle there was something about fertility potions b/c people were hoping to have the next honour of having a princess?
I do agree that it would probably be something more specialized, not a thing any Tom, Dick, or Harry could scrap together. It's actually one of the reasons why I think that potions ought to be more powerful? Not 'I drink this I am now a god' sort of power but temporary boosts and abilities, like maybe seeing in the dark without an aid? Specialization, advanced prep, and you sort of need to have it and drink it in order for it to work.

Yeah! Just for adrenaline and stuff, though I think there should be some aftereffects on repeatedly consuming the potions- like strain on the eyes for the 'seeing in the dark potion,' for example, or dangerous side effects from consuming two that shouldn't be taken within twenty-four hours within one another. I'm not sure if we should list all of the potions, though, seeing as that would take forever? Or if you wanted to come up with some and just throw them up here for reference, that would be good for the potion/magic users.

I do agree some sort of limits on potions have to exist as well, though I guess that's mostly left onto people as they make things up themselves and hope that they write it down here.

Spell of silence

Not really creating silence but more soundproofing. Need a private place where you can't be eavesdropped on? This is what you'd use. It keeps any sound from leaving the walls of the room you are in. Someone has to be in the room with you in order to hear what you are saying/doing.
Created by either verbal or mental incantation, requires blood sacrifice. Amount depends on how big the room is. A small closet takes maybe a pinprick worth, while a huge arena would take quite a lot.. like a liter or something, I don't know. No one is totally sure because what is the point of making a whole arena soundproof? Spell is dismissed when the caster of it leaves the area.

You have no idea how happy I am this thread exists.

A spell I had used in another thread was

Invisibility.

By speaking a physical or mental incantation the castor can become invisible; however they can still be heard or touched. Different spells are required to make oneself unheard or untouchable. If the spell is cast while physically touching someone else they too will become invisible so long as contact is remained. If contact is broken the non castor will become visible.
