| Roxy was sitting in a corner of the dusty basement, chugging wine from a bottle she “borrowed” from the liquor store. Let’s say it plainly: she barely stole it. Since her arrival, a week ago, did it more often than she cared to admit. No one really noticed and she was kind of suspecting the owner was an old drunk carapace as well. Or maybe he didn’t care. Either way, Roxy just was just taking the bottles when no one was in the HQ and when she was done with them, the plan was simple: sneaking out of the store and dumping them somewhere.
The promise she made to never drink again was short lived. Of course, who could blame her. There wasn’t much to do when you were forced to stay in all day. And that was what she was forced to do, because the all-mighty Prince Dirk decided so. Because it was too dangerous for her to go out, and after the silly mistake she made of going on the Moon, the leader didn’t want any more trouble with her.
The rogue snorted, even though no one was around to hear it. That guy... Thinking of him made her annoyed and she drank again, only to find out that was the last of it and that the bottle was empty. Drat.
She stood up, wobbling a little. Oops. She would have to pretend she was sober. She hoped no one would notice. People around here weren’t really fun to deal with. They were all long faces and serious business.
Roxy made her way to the back of the room were useless junk was usually stored. She tossed the empty bottle and walked to the little table were Dirk usually did his paper work and other leaderly-work (if that was even a word). When the bossy-guy was around, she was not allowed near the important stuff. He didn’t really trust her. For some reason, he seemed to have something against her, too. Roxy didn’t forget their first meeting but asking him would bring her nothing more than a scowl. Asking anyone else, for that matter, was out of the question. The blonde noticed how people, mostly the human rebels, stared at her from time to time. They always did when they thought she wasn’t paying attention. Roxy had no idea what that was about. She suspected it was related to that princess crap Sollux told her, a week ago. Now it all seemed like non-sense. If she had been a princess, people would have been respecting her, not treating her like a piece of furniture.
The only good people to be around were Sollux and his friend Aradia, when they actually were around. They usually weren’t because Dirk sent them on missions and interesting stuff, while she was stuck in the HQ. So that left her with drinking her boredom away. Soon, she would have to disobey. She was merely sticking around because when everyone was out of the HQ, she was able to sneak around and find out secret stuff.
Roxy stared at the papers on the table. Of course, it was useless because she didn’t know how to read. But some of these papers had drawing and blueprints on them and they were really interesting. One caught her eyes: it was the blueprint of some kind of weapon she wasn’t able to identify. For unknown reasons, she was really drawn to that weapon. She gazed at the drawing for a long moment.
Suddenly, she jumped. The cellar’s trap door had just opened loudly and the steps started creaking. Oh, right! Dirk had told her about that super important meeting and she was supposed to wait for the others. It came back to her now. She wasn’t really paying attention when he was talking. His words were distant.
Roxy folded the piece of paper and slipped it in her pocket. No one would notice... and she was just borrowing it to get a closer look, anyway. The paper disappeared just in time. The feet of the newcomer were almost down the stairs.
The blonde turned around to great the first rebel to arrive to the meeting. |

| Sollux hadn't been so busy in a long while. Since the day he'd joined the rebels, he had been sent on several more or less important missions. He was tired and starting to feel like all this organization was going nowhere fast. Things needed to move, otherwise he was starting to think he might be better on his own. He hoped that the upcoming meeting would change something to their situation, turn the tables around a little.
He shifted the weight he was carrying a little bit. Dirk had sent him on supply duty in the morning and he was coming back just in time to meet with the others. Of course, they were all so vain, there was no way they'd be there in time. He sighed and put his heavy load down on the side as he pulled the trap opened. He listened for a little bit, hoping to hear voices but nothing but silence came from the cellar down below.
He was first and he'd have to wait for the others. The thought made him grimace.
He looked at the big box of goods that laid at his feet and decided he had done enough physical labour for the day. Now that no one was around to witness him, he lifted the box with his telekinetic powers. It was so much easier that way. It would be such a relief, he thought, to be able to use his powers anytime he wanted.
He slowly climbed down the stairs, his box floating right behind him.
"Is there anyone in here?", he called out as he got down the last stair, placing the box down further to the side. |

| It was difficult to scare Aradia Megido. Death, for one, didn't bother this girl in the slightest. It happened to everyone - it was just a matter of when and where.
Even so, doubts and insecurity had plagued her mind for the last few days, filling the spaces the ghosts had left behind.
Two days ago, the spirits had fallen silent. Where there was usually a crowd of voices, clamoring to be heard over each other, there was suddenly dead silence. Normally, anyone would see this occurrence as a blessing rather than a curse - except for the ghosts' final words. She could recall it perfectly - the voices in her head suddenly shut off, like someone had closed a faucet. She had been bewildered and confused, but then, as if whispered into one of her ears, she heard a final voice, clear as day.
"You have resisted our control for sixteen years. Your time is up. We shall give you one day to set your affairs in order. Two days from now, you are finally ours."
Now, as she stood alone outside the liquor store, she felt a violent tremor pass through her as she recalled the memory of two days ago. She didn't enter, instead leaning against the wall and staring down at the ground. She laughed to herself - it sounded strange and wrong, her voice breaking under the strain. Aradia Megido, what have you done. You're not scared of death. So. Why have you let yourself fall apart like this?
No, that's right. I'm not scared of death. But I had never thought that, after sixteen years of fighting their influence, I would meet such a terrible end.
She knew instinctively that something would happen tonight, that they weren't bluffing. It was inevitable, had always been inevitable. She'd just never realized it. Standing up straight, she brushed herself off and rubbed at her face. She didn't cry. And she wouldn't try to kill herself first, not if there was a slight chance of coming back.... no, if they took her tonight, they would take her as she had always been. Tenacious and unyielding. It was okay, she was okay, until she thought of her friends and the meeting, and then she felt her heart twist. That was okay too, she reminded herself. She held on to her letters, each meticulously penned. It was a shame that they had gotten a little wrinkled from the pressure from her fists.
Her mind made up, she pushed past the door and descended the steps to the meeting, her firm steps echoing across the floor.

| Roxy was delighted to hear her friend’s voice. She rushed to the spot where he was now standing, carefully avoiding any obstacle in her way; that wasn’t an easy task for, if you remember correctly, she was pretty drunk.
“Solluuuuux it’s you! I won’t have to wait for the others –alone-!” She paused, observing him for a few seconds like she hadn’t seen him for months. “You know I’m –really- happy to see you!” she said happily, throwing her arms around the troll and hugging him tightly.
“You don’t know how boring it is to stay here all day, it’ll make me crazy, I swear!” Then she remembered how Sollux felt about hugs and she let him go to avoid his wrath, even though she felt no shame at all. She was happy to see him, she hugged him. End of story. The alcohol wasn’t even to blame for this. It was just Roxy’s natural temper.
She took a step back, a wide smile on her face. She took notice of the box Sollux brought with him and she crouched next to it. She felt curiosity about everything, and people generally thought she was nosy. “What’s in that box? Tell me the bossy guy sent you on some epic mission!” She was disappointed to see the goods and let out a sigh.
At the same moment, she heard footsteps from upstairs and commented: “Ah, someone else arrived for the meeting!" she was silent for a moment and then she added: "Not to sound dumb or anything, but do you have any idea what it’s about?” She laughed.
By the time she finished her sentence, the newcomer was down the stairs. “Aradia!” she called, waving at her, and still wearing that happy smile on her face. Her favorite people were now with her, the wait would be less boring, to say the least! |

| Normally Dove would have been the first to arrive at the meeting but today she had been busy with various errands, so she assumed she'd be one of the later arrivals. Entering the liquor store, the dersite girl could hear voices proving to her that her thought was right. Moving through the building Dove eventually arrived at the door leading to the basement. Rubbing her forehead momentarily the girl entered the door and made her way down the worn steps.
Three figures were seen before her causing the girl to pause in her step and give a small small and a curt nod to show she recognized their presence. Noticing they seemed to be in conversation Dove moved past them to sit on what she referred to as Dirk's 'work table'. Brushing some bangs out of her eyes the dersite female looked over to the trio to analyze. She wasn't the kind of girl to socialize with others and joining the rebels did not change that; however she did make sure to keep up with names and other information she could get on her 'coworkers'.
The single male in the trio sported four curved but pointed horns with long pointy teeth and gray skin- a troll. Looking at his sign Dove recognized him to be Sollux Captor, goldblood. If she remembered correctly he would have psiionic abilities due to his blood cast, though she'd never seen the male in action. He seemed like a decent troll if not a bit impatient at mediocre tasks.
The other troll had lovely ram horns around long curly hair, a hat sat on top to accent the 'show'. Aradia Megido, rustblood. The female troll seemed off at times but Dove was definitely in no position to truly judge what was 'off' about a person. From previous visual encounters Dove assumed that Aradia was an optimistic type of troll who always enjoyed getting a smile out of someone. She wasn't sure if this information was true or not for it was merely a guess. All in all Miss Megido seemed to another decent troll, if not even a bit interesting to Dove. She'd have to try and start a conversation with her sometime...
The last of the trio was one Roxy Lalonde, 'the lost princess.' A new arrival both she and Dirk had gone to some lengths to retrieve and bring her back to the rebel HQ. The girl seemed to be wearing a smile that if it got any bigger it would break her face. Was that what it looked like to be excited to see someone? Either way it wasn't hard to miss the happiness radiating off the 'princess'.
With her analyzing down Dove held a hand to her mouth as a small yawn escaped and settled herself more comfortably on the desk. |

| Dirk sat vigilant in the shadow of a building near the gates to the outer wall of the Palace of Derse. Seven guards on the upper battlements that he could see, four guarding the gate and a guard every twenty meters or so along the high walls. It seems like the Condesce is really trying to put on a show for the public. I'm not THAT dangerous. Dirk chuckled to himself. Well the Rebels might prove themselves dangerous if they can pull off the plan Dirk had been preparing. He had been coming out to the gate every day for the past week just watching. Learning the shift changes.
Trekking back to the Rebel Head Quarters was usually fairly easy. But, today seemed just a little different. There was more patrol units than normal. Sidling through the shadows unseen was just that much more difficult today.
Dirk made it back to the liquor store unseen with only a few close calls. He made sure he was safe below the trap door before he removed his hood with a small sigh and descended the rough, worn, wooden steps to the cellar they used as a head quarters. Dusting himself off he looked up to see everyone was there already. "Sorry I'm late..." Dirk trailed off. Normally he was very punctual. It was most likely all the extra "traffic" that was patrolling the district.
Dirk walked over to the main table very stoically. "Don't know if anyone noticed, but there's a hell of a lot more Derse patrol units out there. I hope no one was followed... Anyway, evening."

| When Dove arrived, Roxy welcomed her with a wave and her cheerful smile. Still extremely grateful for the role she played in rescuing, she did her best to be of good company. However, due to the distant behavior of the lady, she had to be classified in the “serious business” category, much to Roxy’s displeasure. She would have liked to befriend her and learn more about human nobility, and about what being a princess meant. But Dove wasn’t really the kind of person to openly talk to you. Most of the time, she would sit with Dirk and they would talk about important matters.
Roxy’s attention shifted to the stairs when more people arrived. After a while, the room was quite crowded. The blonde found a spot for Sollux, Aradia and herself and they sat there, waiting for their estimate leader to arrive. Finally, he came down the stairs and apologized for being late. “Fashionably late”, Roxy cynically commented in her mind. He was probably out for some important errand and Roxy wondered with envy about his secret tasks. At his comment regarding the patrols, she frowned and crossed her arms.
“How would I know, I’m stuck here all day long.” She muttered, but loud enough for Dirk to hear.
A few more people arrived, and then the rebels where all present for the meeting. Everyone was looking at Dirk with anticipation. Roxy hoped that what he had to say meant she could finally do something to help the cause. |

| Aradia was glad she'd taken the time to pause and steel herself before entering the HQ. She felt the corners of her mouth twitch as she was met immediately with the faces of Sollux and Roxy, her dear friends, and then almost frowned again at catching herself. As she watched her friends talk, though, she felt her shoulders loosen and felt a smile fit into place on her face. She'd just focus on the meeting, and being with her friends. She'd set things up as well as possible before she went and finish anything she could.
Having a purpose in mind, Aradia brightened and rushed over to join Roxy and Sollux. As Dove arrived, Aradia greeted her with a friendly smile, which came easier than she had expected it to. This lovely lady had a stately and formal presence Aradia had always respected. Maybe someday the chance would arise to get to know her properly!
She greeted Dirk with a smile and a "Good evening!", then let Roxy guide her away to find a place to sit. Slumping down in her chair, she huffed out a breath, then turned to Sollux, bringing her lips close to his ear. She stopped herself from biting her lip through sheer force of will, but there was really nothing she could do about her sweaty palms.
"Here, I have something for you!" she whispered, keeping her tone light and mischievous. She closed the letters firmly in his hand, closing his fingers with her own. Roxy looked over, her eyes large with curiosity, and Aradia slipped her a quick wink. "There's something in there for you too, and Dirk as well! But! Both of you have to promise me not to read them just yet or you might end up embarrassing me! Seriously you better not! Sollux, you hold on to them and make sure Roxy doesn't peek! Get the other one to Dirk, okay?"
She wished she could burn their smiling faces into her very being. Just for something to hold on to. |

| "You know you can't be seen outside of here Roxy. It's safer for you here." Dirk asserted upon Roxy's muttering.
Normally Dirk was cool, calm and collected, and he was... on the outside. His ever-stoic face hid the anxiety that was blighting him at the moment. Leading a rebellion was very stressful. You're pretty much responsible for every liability. There were people he had to protect. He took a long slow breath to collect his thoughts and calm himself, meanwhile showing nothing of his fear to his fellow rebels.
"So, like i said, there are many more patrol units than normal. I've been watching the palace walls for the past few days and it seems to be the trend there as well. I think Condy is planning something big. If it were my guess, she's trying to make it look like we're dangerous and is beefing up the security to make the public nervous. So we need to hit her hard before she hits us."
Dirk walked around his main work desk, a large, shabby old crate to look over the multitude of maps and papers he had there. "It is going to be impossible to infiltrate the palace from the gates; there are too many guards. But, thanks to Dove's work, we have a handful of blueprints including the one for the palace AND the blueprints for a rather large war machine." he said looking up at Dove and the rest of the rebels as he shuffled through the papers looking for them..... having much trouble because it seemed the blueprint for the weapon wasn't there. Dirk gritted his teeth, visibly agitated.

| She shrugged when Dirk replied to her complaint. She knew he was right, of course. Derse was dangerous with all the patrols the Condesce sent to get them. But at the same time, the rogue wanted to be active in this rebellion. For someone used to the rough life of a traveller, staying inside a cellar every single day was not tolerable. She needed adventure as she needed to breath. To some extent, she even craved danger. She wasn’t really the cautious type, and she usually got in trouble because of that. And Dirk knew it, that’s why he kept her inside. For an unknown reason, he cared for her well being. One day, Roxy would confront him about it. But not today.
Dirk was quiet for a moment, probably sorting his thoughts before talking. Roxy caught the letter exchange between Aradia and Sollux and she looked over, wondering with extreme curiosity what it was about. Aradia saw her peeking and she explained there was something for her, so she smiled with delight.
“A letter for me? Thanks Aradia it’s really nice of you!” She glanced at Sollux with mischief in her eyes. “I don’t think Sollux could keep them from me, though.” She chuckled. Of course, she could not read her own letter so she would have to wait until Sollux gave her the letter and ask him to read it out loud to her. For some reason, it only struck her now that everyone else could write and read, and that made her feel bad about herself, so she didn’t mention it just yet.
When Dirk started to talk again, the conversations died and everyone was quiet. Tension was almost tangible in the room when their leader mentioned hitting the enemy and the blueprints they found. Roxy felt a pang of guilt when she saw Dirk shuffling through the papers, looking for the blueprint of a large war machine. She could feel the shape of the paper she “borrowed” through her pocket. She was no specialist but she was quite certain the blueprint she looked at earlier wasn’t a big war machine. It looked more like some sort of hand weapon. She discreetly plunged her hand in her pocket and played with the paper in it, trying to unfold it. That’s when she noticed the sheet was a little thicker than when she held it in her hands.
With horror, she realised that she had taken two blueprints by mistake. Stealing one was already bad enough, but stealing THE one was a whole new level of bad. She racked her brain, trying to find a way to give the blueprint back without anyone noticing; nothing came. She was screwed. Dirk would be mad at her forever. All the wine she drank earlier added to the thought of being publicly told off by Dirk started to make her feel sick. She threw wild gazes around the room like she would find the solution to her problems. Her eyes stopped on the corner where she hid her empty bottles. A bright idea flashed in her head. She would simply pretend the blueprint fell of the table and that she found it on the floor. Dirk would probably doubt her word but it would be less of deal than admitting she stole the blueprint in the first place.
With the hand she had in her pocket, she grabbed the second piece of paper, leaving the first at rest. Dirk didn’t need that one... She pulled the paper out. “I think you might be looking for this!” She said, wearing her best poker face and apologetic puppy eyes. “I found it lying over there... It must have fallen from the table when someone passed by.” She held the paper in front of her for Dirk to grab it. “But since you never allowed me to look at your papers, I didn’t know it was important...!” she finally added to her defence, somewhat still fearing Dirk’s reaction. By now, everyone knew Roxy was rather unpredictable, and the fact she didn’t think to put the paper back on the table wouldn’t surprise anyone. Plus, given the fact she was really good at lying, no one would have the faintest of doubt about her story. Except probably Dirk, since he was always so serious about everything.

| Roxy’s embrace wasn’t unwelcome for once. He was growing tired of his day and it felt strangely comforting to have someone he cared for hug him like that. Like a little pat on the shoulder from his human friend, in her own very expressive way. He had grown a bit more accustomed to her displays of affection and didn’t get angry at them as often anymore, unless he was already ticked off with something.
He looked at his friend and even flashed a little smile when she started complaining. “Would you rather be carrying boxes all day? Because I really wouldn’t mind exchanging tasks with you!”, He said with a chuckle. “I’m glad you’re here.” He turned around and glanced towards the stairs when Roxy said something about footsteps. He was relieved when he finally got a peek of the newly arrived member.
He wasn’t looking forwards to the meeting; he knew it probably meant bad news. Besides, it was always awkward for him being around Dirk. He had taken him down once in that alleyway and even though the leader didn’t seem to recall anything, Sollux remembered every last bit of it.
He greeted Aradia with a small smile and a nod of his head, after which he sat with his friends as more people arrived. He didn’t greet the others. He couldn’t get around to it. Interacting with others still wasn’t his forte and he didn’t trust them completely yet either. Not even the leader.
He was shifting uncomfortably in his seat, trying to keep up with all the conversations, when Aradia leaned over to whisper something into his ear. He almost dropped the letter she stuffed in his hand, startled by the interaction. His head was starting to ache and he was starting to feel stressed out from all this buzzing around. Once he picked up Aradia’s uneasiness, it was over; he couldn’t focus on Dirk’s instructions anymore. He looked at her, confused.
“Aradia? For me?”, He lowered his voice “Is everything alright?”
He couldn’t shrug off the feeling that something was off, but he smiled at his friend anyway and thanked her for the letter. He put it in the little pouch he carried at his waist and fastened it to keep the letters safe.
“I’ll give them when time comes. Keep your paws off for now Roxy.”
Afterwards, he tried to turn his attention back to Dirk’s explanations, without much success. He couldn’t shrug the feeling that something was going to happen and the voices in his head were growing louder and louder. He took a deep breath as their Leader was fumbling about for some blueprints and tried to calm his mind… |

| Dirk raised an eyebrow when Roxy extended the paper to him. He paused figuring she'd been looking through the blueprints and other papers on his makeshift crate of a "desk." She really couldn't be blamed if she had been. She had relatively nothing else to do besides entertain herself with whatever she could find in the old cellar. "Thank you." he said softly as he checked to be sure it was the blueprint he was looking for. "Yeah, this is it." he said a little more excitedly as he sat down and motioned for everyone to come over, pointing at various points on the blueprints. " So, Condy has made a machine that harnesses the power of magnets to create electric currents. These blueprints are for a machine that is meant to synthesize lightning... Meant to hit us I'd presume."
Dirk paused for a second to let that sink in as he unrolled the blueprint for the Palace. "However! I doubt she will actually end up building these any time soon as the optimal places for them are on the front battlements of the Palace, too close to the public." he said pointing out the assumed tactical points
Dirk continued with a half smirk as the best part was coming up. "After examining the blue prints, I've found that the machines are actually rather simple to construct. My plan is, using the blueprint of the Palace, we loot all the magnets and wire coils that we can carry. If we can make small, portable, versions of the machine, we will basically have lightning in the palms of our hands. All we'd need is some sheet metal. But that is relatively easily found... even if we have to take it from the citizens...."
Dirk sat back letting the plan sink in, waiting for questions and objections with a full smirk. This plan didn't have too large a margin for error and he considered himself rather clever for thinking of it. Finally they had a way of striking back. |
