1. Ethic

Be nice with everyone. We know the fandom can get wild about pretty much anything and we want this forum to be a place where we can have fun.

In the role play section, no OOC is allowed. If you want to ask something to your partner, do it privately using PM.

In the OOC section, you can do whatever you want. However, no bashing, no disrespectful behaviour will be tolerated.

If you want to talk about the updates, there is a designated category to do so. No spoilers will be tolerated anywhere on the forum. The chatbox is a spoiler free zone as well.

2. Role playing or “how not to piss the admins”!

  1. Staying close to what we wrote

    Ok so we spent a lot of time thinking about this AU and putting it into a forum. We won’t be control freaks but we still don’t want all that hard work to go to waste.

    Read the background information with great attention and report to it when you have a doubt. If you’re still not sure, you can ask one of the admin what to do.

    We will be very strict if you stray too far from what was written at first.

  2. Staying close to the canon

    Since we are role playing in a AU, there will be differences. But we are asking you to stay as close to the canon as possible.

    That means, personality wise, for the canon characters. Of course, there might be some variations due to the context... but if you play Jade as a mean, arrogant girl, it won’t work.

  3. Shipping

    Shipping is alright. Yeah, we ship too. Who doesn’t? However, we won’t control the ship you choose. One thing, though: this forum focuses on diplomatic and political disputes. It’s about war. But this is not intended as shipping war. We don’t want this forum to turn into a SHIPPING FEST.

    So, you want to ship your character? Good. Just don’t make it your sole purpose as a role player. It can be kind of like a side quest! But honestly, in all that chaos, all we have is eight kids and twelve trolls having to deal with destinies bigger than them; you really think the first thing they will want to do is jump on each other and have sloppy make out session? I don’t think so!

    Also, just make it realistic. This goes with rule 2.2. I said we won’t be control freaks, but it’s kind of half-true. Since you have to stay close to canon personality, we ask you to at least respect the quadrants, for the trolls. Let’s say for example you’re playing Eridan and you want to ship him with Sollux (I’m picking a random pairing here, ok? No bashing!). Well make them Kismesises and not Matesprits! As for the kids... well do what you want... just stay close to canon, please!

    One more thing, humans don't have quadrants like trolls or carapaces do (at least in our AU, since we know it's been ambiguous lately because of the recent updates). You want them to be in a relationship with a troll or a carapace? Sure why not. But it’s either friendship or love on their side. The troll or carapace can say it’s flushed or pale, but it doesn’t affect the human. One sided kismessisitude are ok, though.

    Now, there’s kind of an ethic for shipping. How so? Well you’re not role playing with yourself, are you? If your partner is not ok with the ship you are trying to make (let’s continue with my example, and Sollux doesn’t like EriSol!), you CAN’T and WON’T force them to do it. If you intend to start shipping, you might want to talk with the role player first (again, PM is your friend!). You may come to a compromise... or maybe you won’t. Too bad! Just suck it up. Being pushy won’t be tolerated.

3. Technical stuff

  1. Avatar and signature

    Please don’t make your avatar larger 200x350.

    Your signature can be 350x150 maximum.

    If you feel confident enough, you can draw your own avatar! There sure are a lot of talented people in the Homestuck fandom! However, if your drawing skills are not that good (like it’s my case) and you want to use someone else’s art, please make sure to ask them first. We do not like art theft! If they say yes, make sure to give them credit in your signature!

  2. Writing

    About writing: we won’t be too hard on people who make mistakes. I will be honest and tell you all that English is not my first language! Sure, my writing is not perfect but I’m doing my best. You might see some mistakes here and there. Please feel free to tell us and we will fix them.

    However, we want our role players to do their best. Use dictionaries to help you, ask a friend to correct your posts before putting them online. I’m not talking about dialogues. Of course, if it’s the character talking, you can make mistakes! Stay in character and respect their personalities and quirks! About that: only audible quirks really matter (i.e. Nepeta, Sollux, Eridan, Feferi, etc.) Written quirks like Vriska’s “8” can be dropped. It’s up to you to keep them or not.

    Since it’s a serious forum, we will ask you to limit the use of emoticons and other internet quirks. This AU could take place in some kind of absolute monarchy à la Louis XIV so keep that in mind when you write!

    Most of the humans are from aristocracy so they must speak accordingly. We are not asking you to make them talk like French aristocracy from the 17th century but try to make them sound good! For the troll, you’re free to do what you want.

    You will be asked to write a minimum of 150 word per post which is, let's face it, not a lot. If you're not familiar with roleplay/forum roleplay, and you're not sure you'll be able to write that many word, please see the beginner's guide.

    You can start a roleplay for anyone to join or you can plan a roleplay with a specific person. If you do, just write [PRIVATE - (name(s) of the character(s) you want to roleplay with)] and no one will bother you!

    If you want to roleplay with more than one person, it's better to TAKE TURNS at doing so. That way, if two out of three roleplayers are online, the absent one won't be left out and won't have 10 pages to read.

    You can roleplay at the same time in as many forum as you like. Just try to keep a continuity between them (or chronological order).

  3. Roleplay ethic

    Taking turn is an option, you are not forced to do so. But you have to decide with your partner! If you decide not to do it, still be considerate. You have to leave them the time and the possibility to answer. If you make your character do a long series of actions during one post, it might be hard for the other roleplayer to react.

    That leads us to GOD MODDING.

    Quoting Urban Dictionnary:

    Quote :
    1) "God Modding" is in essence when someone’s character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. And example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other RP-ers try.

    Characters fitting that definition will automatically be rejected upon reading of their character sheet. You will be asked to make them more realistic characters or won’t be allowed to join the forum.

    Quote :
    2) It's a term used in rps that is used when someone does an action/actions that are impossible to defend against. It is also used when someone describes how the other person is affected by it, thus leaving the player unable to rp his/her own character.

    For fighting, it's being able to dodge everything and always hit your opponent. For other things, like using something that takes over someone's mind, it's saying that you take over their mind and do this or that to them without allowing them to figure out if they can defend against it.

    This won’t be tolerated either. When roleplaying, try to be fair. You have to accept to take hits sometimes. But make sure the roleplay is logical. If your opponent is stronger than you, it’s NORMAL that you will take more hits.

    However, you have to allow your partner to defend themselves. If you are fighting, don’t make your post a long series of actions. Two or three actions should be good. Try to follow this template:

    1- Your character reacting to what the other did
    2-3- your character doing something to the other

    Feel free to bend this template but make sure your partner is ok with it!

    Also, you don't have the right to control the other character's action.

  4. Claiming a character

    If you decide to play as a canon character, you can claim them by registering with their name. After you register, you will be given two weeks to complete your character sheet. If you haven't completed your sheet after that, your account will be deleted and the character will become available again. The two weeks rule also applies to original characters.

    You can create multi-accounts following certain rules:
    - you can only claim one canon character;
    - you can have a maximum of two characters;
    - please make sure you won't neglect one of your character (especially the canon one!).

  5. Activity

    We will ask that you post at least once a week. If you don't, we will give you up to three warnings, and if you're still not active enough after that, you'll be kicked out.

    If you have to absent yourself, this rule won't apply as long as you notify us by PM.

4. Explicit content

We know some of you might enjoy role playing explicit stuff (including nudity and sexual intercourse) but it won’t be allowed on this forum. Not everyone is comfortable with that kind of content and we want to make this place friendly for everyone. Also, remember the rule about shipping: this forum is not about love... and it’s not about sex either.

Romantic interactions are allowed (kissing, making out), and since the canon characters are all older than 16, you'll also be allowed to hint that something happened between them (i.e. saying that they spent the night together). You could also make your roleplay progress in that direction, and then, do a time skip. In any case explicit content won't be allowed.

5. You did something wrong?

Regarding the rules about rude/disrespectful behaviour, about being pushy with shipping and about explicit content, we won’t be very tolerant.

Depending of the gravity of the offense, we will:

  1. Suspend you for a few days to a week;
  2. Let you back in;
  3. If you do it again, you’re banned;

If what you did is unforgivable (i.e. death threats), you will be immediately be banned.

We will keep our eyes opened wide to make sure none of this happen. However, if you are at the receiving end of this kind of treatment, please tell us. We will do what’s necessary.

Regarding the AU/canon part, we won’t be as harsh. You will get three warning:

  1. Your character is OOC/you not respecting the AU: try to do something about it, please?
  2. You’re doing it again, please try harder!
  3. Are you doing it on purpose to piss us off?!
  4. Fourth time, you will be kicked out.

We are aware everyone might not be mastering their character perfectly. I’m not pretending I am. And you won’t be asked to. Like I said, you can always stray a little from canon. You will have time to get used to playing your character. But after a while, it won’t be enough.
